Uzbekistan Detects Food Safety Violations During Market Inspections
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbek authorities have identified quality and food safety violations involving several food products following a series of control purchases carried out by the Competition Development Committee together with other authorised agencies.
Laboratory tests found that some food products failed to meet national sanitary, hygienic and safety standards. Authorities said measures are being taken against manufacturers, retailers and other market participants found to have violated the regulations.
In Samarkand Region, inspectors tested nine types of food and consumer products. Laboratory analysis determined that "555 MUKA" flour produced in Kazakhstan did not comply with sanitary requirements and was deemed unfit for consumption. Retailers were ordered to remove the product from sale.
In Navoi Region, an inspection at FORDES GROP LLC found that "Saodat" iodised table salt produced in Khorezm Region failed to meet safety standards. The inspection materials have been forwarded to the relevant authority for action against the manufacturer.
In Bukhara Region, laboratory testing showed that "Sulaymon Fayz" first-grade wheat flour produced by Sulaymon Nafosat Fayz LLC did not comply with sanitary regulations. The retailer was ordered to refund consumers 5.7 million Uzbek soums received from the sale of the product.
In Jizzakh Region, samples of "Ardus" flour produced by Javhar Flour Trade LLC failed to meet mandatory standards for iron and zinc content. Sales of the product were suspended, and enforcement measures are being taken against the seller.
In Fergana Region, laboratory testing also found that "Troyka" flour did not comply with regulatory requirements. The case has been referred to the competent authority for further consideration.
The Competition Development Committee said it will continue conducting control purchases and laboratory testing to ensure the quality and safety of consumer goods available on Uzbekistan's market.
