Uzbekistan Auto Market Growth Driven by Electric Vehicles
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s automotive market showed mixed dynamics in April 2026, with overall sales declining while demand for domestically produced passenger cars and electric vehicles strengthened, according to a review by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR).
According to the analysis, 88,200 motor vehicles were sold in the country in April, which is 1.9% lower than in the same period last year. At the same time, total sales since the beginning of the year reached 348,500 units, increasing by 4.1% year-on-year, indicating continued positive long-term market growth.
The strongest growth was recorded in Tashkent, where car sales increased by 11.8%. Positive dynamics were also observed in the Fergana and Samarkand regions, where the market grew by 11% and 10.9%, respectively, reflecting expanding regional consumer activity.
In the primary market, 24,900 new passenger cars were sold in April, down 3.6% compared to a year earlier.
The majority of sales came from locally produced vehicles, which reached around 21,300 units, increasing by 4% year-on-year. In contrast, sales of new imported vehicles fell by more than 32% to about 3,600 units, becoming a key factor in the overall decline in the new car segment.
The used car segment showed a more pronounced downturn. Sales in the secondary market amounted to 43,700 units, more than 15% lower than in April last year, reflecting weakening demand in this category.
Against the overall decline in the traditional automotive market, the electric vehicle segment recorded the strongest growth.
In April, 8,100 electric vehicles were sold in the country, nearly double the figure for the same period last year. Electric transport remains the fastest-growing segment of Uzbekistan’s automotive market.
The majority of EV sales were concentrated in Tashkent, where more than 5,560 units were sold, accounting for about 70% of the national total.
Significant volumes were also recorded in the Tashkent and Fergana regions, with 573 and 464 electric vehicles sold, respectively.
