Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan Sign Joint Statement and Package of Agreements

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Following productive high-level talks, the Presidents of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, signed a Joint Statement confirming the further strengthening of strategic partnership and bilateral cooperation.

In the presence of both leaders, the signed documents were exchanged. These encompass a wide range of collaborative areas, including the Agreement on the Functioning of the Uzbek-Turkmen Cross-Border Trade Zone, as well as agreements on cooperation in healthcare and medical science, agriculture, emergency prevention and response, and international road passenger and freight transportation.

Additionally, the parties approved cooperation programs for 2026–2027 between the ministries of justice and culture, memoranda on joint supply of railway wagons for transporting petroleum products and chemical cargoes, on biosafety, and on the creation of a Uzbek-Turkmen Expert Council under the Institutes of Strategic and Interregional Studies and International Relations. Memoranda on cooperation between specialized institutions in legislation, legal policy, and human rights were also signed.

Special attention was given to environmental and natural resource issues — a “Roadmap” for cooperation in forestry for 2026–2030 was adopted. Agreements were also formalized on collaboration in trade and economic, scientific and technical, and cultural and humanitarian spheres between regional administrations of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, including Surkhandarya, Kashkadarya, and Tashkent regions, Lebap and Ahal velayats, as well as Karakalpakstan and Dashoguz velayat.

The adopted documents reflect the systematic and multifaceted nature of cooperation between the two countries, aimed at deepening economic, social, cultural, and scientific-technical ties, as well as promoting regional interaction.
