Uzbek Lawmakers Approve State Secrets Protection Amendments

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has reviewed and adopted in the first reading the draft law "On Amending and Supplementing the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan 'On Licensing, Permissive and Notification Procedures,'" aimed at improving the legal framework for activities to ensure the preservation of state secrets.

The document provides for the introduction of a permissive procedure for carrying out activities related to the certification of informatization objects and critical information infrastructure objects. In addition, it is proposed to establish certification procedures for hardware and software intended for processing and protecting information containing state secrets, as well as confidential information.

The bill also defines the procedure for certifying hardware and software tools used to ensure the cybersecurity of information systems and information resources.

At the same time, it is proposed to exclude relations associated with granting access to information constituting state secrets from the scope of the Law "On Licensing, Permissive and Notification Procedures."

As noted during the discussion, the adoption of the bill will allow for a clear definition of special powers and procedures in the field of ensuring state security at the legislative level, eliminate ambiguous interpretations of norms during their application, and strengthen legal guarantees for the protection of state secrets.

Following the review, the deputies adopted the draft law in the first reading and sent it to the Senate.
