Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Türkiye have agreed to continue efforts to expand bilateral trade, remove trade barriers and improve market access for goods from both countries.
The issues were discussed at the second meeting of the Uzbek-Turkish Working Group on Trade, held in Ankara.
The Uzbek delegation was led by Inomjon Abdurakhmonov, head of a department at Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade. Türkiye was represented by Husnu Dilemre, head of a department at the Ministry of Trade.
One of the key topics was achieving the target of US$5 billion in bilateral trade. Participants discussed measures to eliminate tariff and non-tariff restrictions and expand market access for agricultural products, electrical equipment and light industry goods.
Particular attention was given to technical regulation and standardisation, mutual recognition of certificates of conformity, and the simplification of customs procedures. The parties agreed to establish a technical working group on trade in electrical products.
Participants also held consultations on expanding the Preferential Trade Agreement to create additional opportunities for exporters in both countries.
A corresponding protocol was signed following the meeting.
The parties also agreed to work on signing a document expanding the agreement during the upcoming summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Ankara.
