Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The area of intensive orchards operated by joint venture SURA GENERAL INVESTMENTS in Yangikurgan district, Namangan region, is planned to be expanded by 200 hectares.
The project is expected to increase fruit production and raise export revenue to US$20 million, according to the information service of the Yangikurgan district administration.
The company currently operates intensive orchards covering a total of 267 hectares, where cherries, peaches, plums and apricots are grown. Each year, the company exports about 1,200 tonnes of fruit products to foreign countries.
Namangan Region Governor Shavkatjon Abdurazzokov held a meeting with company representatives to discuss prospects for further expanding its operations, increasing production volumes and boosting exports.
Earlier, company head Aymen Abdelbari proposed allocating an additional 200 hectares of land to expand production. The proposal was supported by the regional governor.
The project is expected to increase product exports to US$20 million and create hundreds of new jobs.
The expansion is also expected to contribute to agricultural development in Yangikurgan district, strengthen its export potential and support employment.
