Uzbekistan and Pakistan explore pharmaceutical manufacturing partnership

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Agency for the Development of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Sector of Uzbekistan hosted an executive session with a visiting delegation of business leaders and entrepreneurs from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to map out strategic collaboration vectors in the pharmaceutical industry.

During the working session, Pakistani delegates were briefed on the institutional and legal reforms executed in Uzbekistan to modernize its healthcare industry, the regulatory preferences guaranteed to international investors, and the structural scale of the newly remodeled "BioPharma City" innovation research and manufacturing cluster. The 290-hectare biotech hub serves as Central Asia's premier integrated base for drug development, academic research, and advanced logistics.

The Pakistani delegation examined the administrative functions of the agency, the operational state-backed incentive mechanisms designed for foreign manufacturing entities, and priority investment fields. Discussions centered heavily on establishing localized production facilities, facilitating seamless technology transfers, and leveraging Uzbekistan's geographic positioning to boost regional export capacity into adjacent Central Asian and CIS markets.

The encounter built upon recent bilateral efforts aimed at transitioning the Uzbek-Pakistani pharmaceutical relationship from basic drug import-export pipelines toward permanent, capital-intensive localized manufacturing joint ventures. Following the business presentations, both parties exchanged technical views on the financial frameworks required to initiate high-yield joint investment projects and agreed to hold specialized operational consultations between corporate representatives from both nations.
