Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in international road transport, including by digitising procedures and introducing a “seamless transit” mechanism. The agreement was reached at a meeting of the Joint Commission on International Road Transport held in Samarkand on 13 September.

The meeting was chaired by Uzbekistan’s First Deputy Minister of Transport Mamanbiya Omarov and Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Transport Maksat Kaliakparov, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport said.

The sides discussed further development of international road transport, increasing freight and passenger traffic, improving the permit system and expanding the transit potential of the two countries.

Following the meeting, the sides agreed to establish a bilateral Working Group to introduce the “seamless transit” mechanism. It will simplify and digitise procedures for international road transport, reduce administrative barriers and facilitate a phased transition to electronic document management.

The sides also reached a preliminary agreement to introduce electronic permit forms for irregular international passenger road transport from 2027.

The meeting also focused on developing road transport infrastructure and improving the efficiency of transport controls.

The sides reaffirmed their interest in further expanding transport and logistics cooperation and agreed to ensure the practical implementation of the agreements reached.
