Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and South Korea discussed the further implementation of projects to build a new Tashkent International Airport and modernize Urgench International Airport. The talks were held in Seoul on 12 September between Uzbekistan’s Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov and the management of Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC).
Kim Beom-ho, acting head of IIAC, represented the Korean corporation at the meeting.
The sides reviewed the progress of two major public-private partnership projects in Uzbekistan. Regarding the new Tashkent International Airport, the transport minister proposed involving highly qualified specialists with international experience in detailed design and the development of technical solutions.
The parties also discussed completing the establishment of a special project company, as well as companies responsible for the airport’s operation and maintenance, within the निर्धारित deadlines.
Regarding Urgench International Airport, the sides considered moving to the next practical stage of terminal construction.
Particular attention was paid to personnel training. Ilkhom Makhkamov proposed organizing training, professional development and experience-sharing programs for Uzbek specialists at Incheon International Airport before both airports enter operation.
The training is expected to help create a pool of national specialists capable of managing the new airports after their completion.
Following the meeting, the sides supported the proposed initiatives and agreed to continue cooperation on the projects in a consistent manner.
