Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and South Korea are expanding cooperation in training specialists for the civil aviation sector, with more than 150 Uzbek citizens currently studying at Korea Aerospace University (KAU) across eight fields, Uzbekistan’s Transport Ministry said.

The cooperation with KAU is aimed at training pilots, aviation managers, air transport logistics specialists and other professionals in line with international requirements, while also transferring South Korean experience in aviation education and flight training.

Uzbek students are currently enrolled in bachelor’s and master’s programmes covering flight operations, air traffic management, aviation management, air transport logistics, service management, aviation business, IT and cybersecurity, as well as cabin crew training.

During a visit to South Korea, Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov met with KAU President Heo Hee-young. The sides discussed the implementation of joint educational programmes and plans to expand student admissions.

Particular attention was given to KAU’s participation in the activities of a pilot school being established in Uzbekistan. The sides also discussed attracting flight instructors and training aircraft.

Makhkamov also met with Uzbek students at KAU and reviewed their study conditions, academic performance and plans for the future.

The meeting also covered employment prospects for graduates after completing their studies, including opportunities to work in Uzbekistan. These include positions at the New Tashkent and Urgench airports, national airlines, as well as flight training at the pilot school being established in Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan’s Transport Ministry noted that developing modern aviation requires not only fleet renewal, airport infrastructure upgrades and expansion of the route network, but also the development of qualified human capital that meets international standards.
