Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Construction of the Kos-Dobo North No. 2 tunnel has been completed in Kyrgyzstan on the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, while work continues on other key facilities, including the Naryn No. 1 tunnel, People’s Daily Online reported, citing the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway Company LLC.
The Kos-Dobo North No. 2 tunnel is 209.6 metres long. It is a single-track, single-portal tunnel with a maximum depth of 41 metres.
Since construction began, specialists have organised work taking into account the technical characteristics of the facility. Safety, quality and schedule controls were strengthened at the construction site, allowing the tunnel excavation to be completed on time.
According to the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway Company LLC, temporary access roads and temporary power supply facilities have already been completed and commissioned along the entire route in Kyrgyzstan. This has created conditions for the deployment of the main construction works.
Construction has now begun on 27 tunnels, one of which has already been completed. Work is also underway on 43 bridges and 88 sections of the railway earthworks. Construction has also been launched at 20 railway stations.
The China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway is being implemented as part of cooperation between China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan under the Belt and Road Initiative.
The route starts in Kashgar in China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, crosses the Torugart Pass and continues through Kyrgyzstan to Jalal-Abad.
The railway then heads west and ends in Andijan in eastern Uzbekistan.
