Uzbekistan and India sign package of cooperation agreements

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and India signed a package of bilateral documents aimed at further developing cooperation in trade and the economy, investment, culture and humanitarian affairs, and other areas, the Uzbek presidential press service said.

The signing ceremony was held on 30 August at the Kuksaroy residence following talks between President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The sides adopted a Joint Statement following Modi’s visit to Uzbekistan. They also signed a Programme of Cultural Exchanges between the governments of the two countries for 2026–2030.

Several documents provide for expanded cooperation in healthcare. In particular, Uzbekistan and India signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in Ayurveda and other forms of traditional medicine.

In education and science, the sides signed an agreement on cooperation in higher education and scientific research. A memorandum of understanding was also signed between Uzbekistan’s University of World Economy and Diplomacy and India’s Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service.

Environmental cooperation will be covered by an agreement on environmental protection. In the area of historical and cultural heritage, the sides signed a protocol on conducting archaeological research at the Fayaztepa and Karatepa sites.

Economic and financial cooperation will be developed under a separate memorandum of understanding. The sides also signed a memorandum on cooperation in geology and mineral resources.

Tourism cooperation will be developed under a programme for cooperation in tourism for 2026–2028. Another memorandum provides for cooperation in archival affairs.

The documents also provide for expanded cooperation at the regional level. In particular, an agreement was signed establishing partnership relations between Uzbekistan’s Samarkand Region and India’s Gujarat state.

The package of documents was signed as part of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Uzbekistan and formed part of the agreements on further deepening the Uzbek-Indian partnership.
