Uzbekistan Thanks India for WTO Accession Support

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has thanked India for supporting its accession process to the World Trade Organization (WTO), according to a joint statement issued following Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Uzbekistan on 29–30 August 2026.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to work together to preserve and protect the multilateral trading system centered on the WTO, including in the interests of developing countries.

The two leaders also agreed to support efforts to strengthen production and export capacity, promote dialogue between regulators and explore the possibility of concluding mutual recognition agreements to facilitate and accelerate access to each other’s markets.

The joint statement said Mirziyoyev and Modi welcomed the sustained growth in bilateral trade and reaffirmed their intention to further expand and diversify trade in order to establish stronger commercial ties between Uzbekistan and India.

The leaders also referred to the completion of a joint feasibility study for a preferential trade agreement between Uzbekistan and India. They instructed the relevant authorities to work out the next steps on the issue within the established timeframe.
