Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A delegation from Uzbekistan’s Committee for the Development of Competition and Consumer Protection, led by Deputy Chairman Ulugbek Davlatov, took part in an international seminar on European Union competition law and its enforcement practices in Brussels on 12–13 October 2026.
The event was organised at the initiative of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition (DG COMP).
Participants examined European approaches to assessing the impact of state aid on competition, conducting antitrust investigations and monitoring economic concentrations. The programme also covered the use of commitments imposed on parties during the review of transactions, as well as cooperation between national competition authorities and the exchange of enforcement experience.
Cross-border trade and restrictions on imports of original products were among the topics discussed by experts.
Participants considered the relationship between trademark rights and competition law requirements, as well as the potential impact of import restrictions on independent importers’ access to the market, pricing and consumer choice.
These discussions followed preliminary online consultations with DG COMP experts on 30 September concerning a case under consideration by Uzbekistan’s Committee for the Development of Competition and Consumer Protection.
During the visit, the Uzbek delegation also met Maria Jaspers, Director for Policy and Strategy at DG COMP.
The two sides discussed opportunities to expand institutional cooperation, hold consultations on cross-border issues and exchange experience in competition policy and state aid.
They also considered the prospects for organising joint training activities and the possibility of concluding a memorandum of understanding.
Uzbekistan’s Committee for the Development of Competition and Consumer Protection plans to study the materials and recommendations provided by European experts in light of national legislation.
The findings are expected to be used in preparing proposals to improve the implementation of competition law in Uzbekistan.
