Uzbekistan and China discuss tourism infrastructure and service corridors
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a working visit by Chairman of the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Akkulov to China, a meeting was held with Lei Hongchen, Deputy Chairman of the Silk Road Fund, to discuss prospects for expanding cooperation in tourism and infrastructure.
The two sides emphasized the importance of large-scale investment projects being implemented in Uzbekistan under the Belt and Road Initiative. Special attention was given to the construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, as well as joint energy projects involving ACWA Power.
The contribution of the Silk Road Fund to the financing of the Samarkand Tourism Center was also noted. The facility is currently one of the largest MICE venues in Central Asia and regularly hosts international summits, UN Tourism general assemblies, UNESCO events, and major business forums.
During the talks, the Uzbek side presented a concept for developing tourist road corridors. In particular, the parties discussed projects to create modern service centers along routes from Andijan to Karakalpakstan, as well as from Tashkent to Termez.
The two sides also considered the potential to introduce advanced Chinese experience in roadside infrastructure, improvement of tourism services, and the development of transport and logistics solutions in Uzbekistan.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was emphasized that the development of the tourism sector contributes to the increased movement of people, capital, goods, and services, as well as the strengthening of cultural and economic ties between the two countries.
