Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan Establish Joint Caspian Fleet and Marine Logistics JV
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are implementing projects to create a joint fleet on the Caspian Sea and establish a joint venture in the field of maritime logistics. The developments were announced by the Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, Khurram Teshabaev, in an interview with the news outlet Report.az.
According to the deputy minister, the joint venture is being formed between JSC Uztemiryulkargo and CJSC Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company. These initiatives are aimed at improving the efficiency of multimodal transportation and reducing transit costs for exporters.
In parallel, additional support measures for Uzbek exporters at the Baku Port are currently under discussion. These include providing discounts on cargo transshipment, introducing comprehensive tariff solutions, optimizing logistics procedures, and ensuring priority handling for containerized and export cargoes.
"In recent years, cargo transportation volumes along this route have been growing steadily, the range of exported products is expanding, and interaction between the transport and logistics operators of our countries is strengthening," Teshabaev noted.
The deputy minister highly praised the role of the Baku Port in securing access for Uzbek products to external markets via the Middle Corridor, calling it "one of the strategically important logistical hubs for developing the transit potential of the region."
"We are convinced that the further deepening of cooperation in the transport and logistics sector will become one of the most critical factors for expanding mutual trade, increasing the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor, and strengthening the transit potential of the entire region," he emphasized.
