Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and the International Monetary Fund discussed further improvements to public financial management and fiscal governance during a meeting on 24 August 2026. The talks involved Jamshid Kuchkarov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan, and Amanda Sayegh, Senior Economist in the Public Financial Management division of the IMF's Fiscal Affairs Department, according to Uzbekistan's Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The sides reviewed ongoing cooperation with the IMF alongside priority directions for fiscal management and public finance reforms. Special attention was paid to fiscal development goals, ongoing initiatives, and subsequent steps to strengthen public financial management.
The discussion covered fiscal risks, including mechanisms for their identification, assessment, and monitoring to evaluate potential impacts on public finance sustainability. The participants also examined ways to enhance existing risk management framework mechanisms.
Additionally, the parties addressed public budget revenue and expenditure formation, focusing on improving planning and forecasting processes and managing budget resources efficiently. Discussions extended to the sequence of financial planning and measures to boost budget management efficiency.
Following the meeting, both parties confirmed their readiness to continue technical cooperation and expand consultations on fiscal governance and public finance.
