Uzbekistan Allows Residence Registration in Seized Homes

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree simplifying several procedures related to property rights registration and residence registration.

Under the decree, citizens are now allowed to obtain permanent residence registration at residential properties that are under arrest or subject to a restriction on disposal.

The consent of the mortgage holder is no longer required. However, a person registering at such an address must give prior consent to the possible cancellation of the registration at the request of the property owner, the mortgage holder or an authorized state body.

The decree also abolishes administrative liability for the late state registration of property rights. Instead, a higher registration fee will apply, with the amount depending on the length of the delay.

The procedure for applying a tax exemption when selling housing inherited or received as a gift from close relatives has also been revised. The ownership period will now be calculated from the date on which the deceased or donor registered ownership of the property.

The decree also introduces new residence registration rules. Citizens who own more than one residential property will be allowed to obtain permanent residence registration at only one address.

Minors will be registered at the place of residence of their parents, one parent or their legal guardian.
