Uzbek Student Joins Rosatom's Impact Team 2050 Council

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Mukhiddin Umidov, a student at the Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, has joined the second cohort of the Impact Team 2050 international youth council under the Rosatom State Corporation. The official ceremony handing over authority to the new members of the council took place during the Obninsk NEW 2026 International Youth Nuclear Forum.

The newly appointed council members met with Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev to discuss the development of international youth cooperation and efforts to expand the circle of supporters of the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

According to Likhachev, the primary task of the new Impact Team 2050 cohort is to shape the agenda of the international youth dialogue regarding peaceful nuclear energy. He noted that each participant has already demonstrated leadership qualities within their respective countries and must now apply this experience to joint initiatives in science, education, and international cooperation.

In the coming months, council members will organize national youth dialogues focused on exploring why young specialists choose other career paths despite the modern and ecological profile of the nuclear industry.

The findings of this work are scheduled to be presented at the COP31 conference in Antalya, where the council will hold its second meeting with the head of Rosatom. The new cohort will also design the youth program for Nuclear Day at COP31 and visit the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant.

The second cohort of Impact Team 2050 was selected through an international competition. Out of 207 applications from 58 countries, 13 representatives from 13 nations were selected: Bangladesh, Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, Hungary, Indonesia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Rwanda, Serbia, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uzbekistan.

The members represent various fields of youth leadership, including scientific research, professional activities in the nuclear industry, management of youth organizations, educational work, and international public activities.

The Impact Team 2050 council was established in 2021 as a youth advisory body under the Director General of Rosatom. Its objective is to formulate proposals to increase the visibility and attractiveness of nuclear technologies among young people in Rosatom's partner countries.

The first cohort of the council, which served from 2022 to 2026, included representatives from eight countries.
