"The Marco Polo Drive of Peace" expedition arrives in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The international expedition titled "The Marco Polo Drive of Peace," traveling entirely in advanced electric and hybrid vehicles, has officially crossed into the territory of Uzbekistan. The large-scale project blends the concepts of sustainable mobility and cross-cultural exchange while actively promoting the historical legacy of the ancient Silk Road.
Spanning a total length of 15,000 kilometers, the 43-day trans-Eurasian journey originally commenced in Rome, Italy, and is scheduled to conclude in Hong Kong. The inclusion of Uzbekistan as a core segment of the expedition highlights the country's historical status as a vital crossroads of ancient civilizations and a central hub of the Silk Road network.
During the Uzbek leg of the trip, participants are scheduled to travel through Nukus, Khiva, Bukhara, Samarkand, and Tashkent. They will also traverse the Aral Sea region, the city of Muynak, and the Kyzylkum Desert. The comprehensive itinerary is designed to introduce the travelers to the country’s landmark architectural monuments, deep-rooted national traditions, unique natural landscapes, and rapidly modernizing tourism infrastructure.
The project gains additional global resonance from its international roster of participants. The driving crew includes prominent scholars, sustainable development experts—including world-renowned economist Professor Jeffrey Sachs—and representatives from foreign media outlets who are documenting the journey to broadcast Uzbekistan's vast tourism potential to a global audience.
Media materials, travelogues, and reports published along the route are expected to significantly enhance the international image of the republic, drawing the attention of fresh consumer markets and expanding the influx of foreign travelers.
Furthermore, the expedition serves as a live, practical demonstration of the viability of green eco-tourism and the long-distance performance capabilities of electric vehicles across multi-border international corridors.
According to the organizers, the project successfully establishes that Uzbekistan possesses substantial readiness not only for traditional cultural and educational tourism but also for high-potential niches such as automotive touring, adventure travel, and ecological expeditions.
The execution of such prominent international initiatives drives the global promotion of Uzbekistan's tourism brand, expands practical cooperation with foreign partners, and accelerates the creation of new tourism products engineered to meet the growing global demand for eco-friendly and themed travel routes.
