Mirziyoyev and Lukashenko hold informal meeting in Minsk
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — As part of his official two-day visit to Minsk, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held an informal meeting with the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.
The Belarusian President warmly welcomed the Uzbek head of state and expressed his gratitude for the visit. During the preliminary talks, the two leaders exchanged views on the core agenda of the upcoming high-level negotiations and stressed the importance of maintaining an open, trust-based dialogue amid current geopolitical shifts.
The leaders highly praised the outcomes of bilateral events organized in the run-up to the official visit, specifically highlighting the Forum of Regions, which successfully brought together business circles and regional administrators from both Uzbekistan and Belarus to secure commercial agreements.
Upon landing at the Minsk International Airport, where he was received by Belarusian Prime Minister Alexander Turchin and Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhenkov, President Mirziyoyev proceeded to the Victory Square monument to lay a wreath and pay tribute to those who perished during World War II.
The official, top-level bilateral negotiations are scheduled for 9 July. The central focus of the talks will revolve around expanding industrial production cooperation, advancing joint venture projects, and boosting bilateral trade, which grew by 25% to approach US$1 billion by the end of 2025.
The heads of state are expected to review a package of approximately twenty bilateral agreements, headlined by a landmark joint Declaration on Establishing a Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
