Tashkent Driver Penalized for Failing to Yield to Ambulance

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A BYD driver in Tashkent has been held administratively liable after failing to give way to an ambulance, the Tashkent Department of Road Traffic Safety said.

The driver was identified after a video of the incident circulated on social media. Traffic safety officers drew up an administrative report against him under the relevant provisions of Uzbekistan’s Code of Administrative Responsibility.

The BYD, bearing state registration number 01 S 080 VB, was taken to an impound lot for temporary storage.

The driver said he was traveling toward Chilanzar and did not notice the ambulance approaching from behind. He explained that the car windows were closed, the air conditioning was on and the music was playing at a high volume, so he did not hear the ambulance’s warning signals.

The driver said he had not intended to obstruct the ambulance, expressed respect for its staff and promised to comply with traffic rules in the future.

In addition to drawing up the administrative report, traffic safety officers held a preventive conversation with the driver.

The Tashkent Department of Road Traffic Safety urged drivers to comply with traffic rules and observe proper road conduct, including giving way promptly to special-purpose vehicles.
