Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Customs officers at the Dustlik checkpoint in Andijan region discovered US$17,000 in cash that a truck driver had attempted to take out of Uzbekistan by hiding it behind the rear seat.

The currency had not been declared to customs officials or disclosed by the driver during the oral questioning.

The truck, which was travelling through the checkpoint to a neighbouring country, underwent standard customs clearance procedures. The driver's behaviour aroused the suspicion of customs officers, prompting them to conduct a detailed inspection of the vehicle.

The inspection uncovered cash totalling US$17,000 in the rear section of the cabin.

The relevant documents have been drawn up, and verification procedures are under way.
