Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The man killed during a confrontation at a wedding venue in Istanbul’s Küçükçekmece district was a citizen of Turkmenistan, not Uzbekistan.

The Uzbekistan Consulate General in Istanbul confirmed this following an investigation into reports circulated by Turkish media.

According to the diplomatic mission, the deceased was 33-year-old Klych Buriev. Earlier media reports about a fatal fight at a wedding venue in Istanbul had raised questions about the man’s citizenship.

The consulate asked media outlets and social media users to take the confirmed circumstances into account when preparing and sharing reports about the incident.

The diplomatic mission also expressed its condolences to the deceased’s family and loved ones.
