Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The United States has reaffirmed its firm commitment to further strengthening military cooperation with Uzbekistan and enhancing the professional skills of the republic's servicemen. The U.S. department stated that it is proud of its long-term and successful defense partnership with Tashkent.

Deepening bilateral relations was the key topic of a meeting between Major General Michael Leeney, Deputy Commanding General of U.S. Army Central, and representatives of the National Guard of the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the talks, the parties analyzed the current results of their joint work in detail and outlined strategic priorities for the near term. The primary focus of the discussion was on coordinating and approving a detailed bilateral interaction plan for 2026–2027.

The interlocutors also agreed to expand professional training opportunities for Uzbek specialists. This involves more active utilization of the potential of the International Military Education and Training (IMET) program, which is coordinated by the United States.

The meeting participants emphasized that a systematic exchange of accumulated experience and high-quality professional education play a fundamental role in preparing highly qualified personnel for security agencies. According to both parties, joint efforts in this direction make a significant contribution to ensuring stability throughout the Central Asian region and serve as a solid foundation for building a secure future.
