Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s tennis player Maria Timofeeva won the WTA 125 Eupago Porto Open in Porto, Portugal, on 27 September.
The top seed defeated American Riz Brantmeier 7–6 (10–8), 6–2 in the final.
The title was the 22-year-old Timofeeva’s third WTA 125 trophy of the season.
Following her victory, Timofeeva will break into the world’s top 70 for the first time. Currently ranked 87th, she will rise to 68th, marking the best ranking of her career.
The first set was closely contested. Brantmeier, ranked 385th in the world, saved five set points, forced a tiebreak and came within one point of taking the set. Timofeeva won the tiebreak before securing the first breaks of serve in the second set and quickly extending her advantage.
“Today’s final was very difficult, especially the first set — it was very even and exhausting,” Timofeeva said after the awards ceremony. She added that the week in Porto had gone well and that she was pleased with how she had raised her level from match to match.
The Porto victory extended Timofeeva’s winning streak at tournaments in Portugal to 17 matches. In 2025, she won tournaments in Figueira da Foz, after coming through qualifying, and Quinta do Lago. In Porto, she succeeded defending champion Teresa Valentova.
On her way to the final, Timofeeva defeated 17-year-old Slovakian Mia Pohankova 6–2, 6–7 (3–7), 6–3 in the semifinals. The match lasted 2 hours and 38 minutes.
For 21-year-old Brantmeier, the final was the first of her professional career. The American reached the main draw through qualifying and defeated second seed Sinja Kraus in the semifinals.
Before turning professional, Brantmeier competed in the US college tennis system, where she won the team championship in 2023 and the individual championship in 2025.
Immediately after the final, Timofeeva will travel to Beijing, where she will compete in the main draw of a WTA 1000 tournament next week.
The Porto tournament was played on hard courts at the Monte Aventino sports complex. The 28th edition of the Eupago Porto Open is organized by the Porto Tennis Association with the support of the Portuguese Tennis Federation.
