Two Workers Killed in BelAZ Collision at Muruntau Mine

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Two workers were killed in a road accident involving a BelAZ haul truck at the Muruntau mine in Uzbekistan's Navoi Region, the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company (NGMK) said.

According to the company, the accident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on 21 July on the mine site. A BelAZ haul truck collided with a Toyota service vehicle, killing two employees.

NGMK said law enforcement authorities have launched a preliminary investigation into the incident.

At the same time, relevant state supervisory authorities are conducting a special inspection to determine the circumstances and causes of the accident.

The company said its responsible departments are taking additional measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In social media posts, eyewitnesses and NGMK employees claimed that some sections of roads near one of the world's largest gold deposits lack lighting and that insufficient watering leads to dust, reducing visibility.

NGMK did not comment on those claims in its statement.
