Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Two people died following a collision between two pleasure boats on the Syr Darya River in the Turakurgan district of the Namangan region, according to the Emergency Situations Department of the Namangan region. One victim died at the scene, while the second passed away in the hospital.

The incident occurred on the evening of 23 August 2026. Video footage circulating on social media showed one vessel stationary in the water near a bridge across the Syr Darya as another boat approached it, followed by a third boat emerging from beneath the bridge before the collision took place.

Additional videos from the scene showed bystanders helping passengers in life jackets out of the water and onto boats.

The Emergency Situations Department did not specify the total number of passengers on board the two vessels, nor did it disclose the cause of the collision.
