Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Science Erkinjon Turdimov reviewed presentations by higher education officials on the current state of the system, ongoing reforms and future priorities.

One of the main priorities identified was improving the quality of university education and adapting academic programmes to labour market needs. Particular attention was given to strengthening links between science and industry so that students can apply their knowledge in practice and develop the skills needed for their chosen professions.

Participants also discussed creating comfortable conditions for students, deepening the study of specialised subjects and foreign languages, and supporting graduate employment.

Other priorities include developing universities’ research capacity, supporting academic staff, introducing scientific developments into the real economy and expanding international cooperation.

Following the presentations, the need to orient higher education not merely towards awarding diplomas but also towards training independently minded young professionals with strong knowledge and well-developed professional skills was emphasised.

Turdimov highlighted the importance of analysing existing problems, identifying specific measures to address them and achieving practical results in each of the priority areas.
