Tashkent region to build three logistics centers for US$900 million
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Three logistics center projects with a combined value of US$900 million are being implemented in the Tashkent region, regional Hokim Zoyir Mirzaev announced in an interview with the Uzbekistan 24 television channel following a presentation to Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
According to the regional head, the first facility is under construction in the Angren and Akhangaran area. The US$100 million project involves creating a logistics hub that meets international standards, and the entrepreneur executing the project has already been selected.
Mirzaev noted that the center is scheduled to launch before the China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway is commissioned, which will allow the region to leverage new opportunities for international freight transport.
The second logistics center is being established in the Yangiyul district in partnership with entrepreneurs from Kazakhstan. The US$300 million project spans an area of approximately 150 hectares. According to the hokim, US$144 million in investment has already been attracted to date, and the primary objective remains completing construction as quickly as possible.
The third center is planned for the Kibray district near the S. Najimov border checkpoint on the frontier with Kazakhstan. A 20-hectare site has been allocated for the project, which will involve US$500 million in foreign investment.
The regional head estimated that at least 7,000 jobs will be created once the facilities become operational. The President also instructed officials to ensure that the logistics centers include the necessary infrastructure for worker housing, recreation, and services.
Mirzaev stated that a corresponding presidential document will be adopted based on the presentation. He added that regional leaders have been directed to ensure the swiftest possible implementation of the planned projects.
Plans to develop Angren, alongside the Yangiyul and Akhangaran districts, as intermediate distribution hubs for transit and foreign trade cargo were previously outlined during a presentation to the head of state. Other projects considered included constructing a Category A logistics center in the Akhangaran district, expanding the railway station in the Yangiyul district, establishing customs terminals and parking facilities, digitalizing the logistics sector, and implementing a "one-stop shop" principle at border checkpoints.
