Tashkent discusses proposal to name street “Beijing”
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A proposal has been submitted in Tashkent to rename Burjar Street to “Beijing,” according to the public discussion website.
The initiative is being considered as part of a broader program on renaming and assigning new names to streets and neighborhoods in the Mirzo-Ulugbek and Yakkasaray districts of the capital.
The project description notes that Beijing is the capital of China and one of the world’s largest political, cultural and historical centers. The authors of the initiative describe it as a symbol of rich cultural heritage and modern development of Chinese civilization.
According to the platform data, the majority of participants currently oppose the proposed name. 31% of users voted in favor of the initiative, while 69% voted against it.
The public vote is taking place from May 25 to June 8, 2026, on the website geonom.tashkent.uz. Residents of the capital can also express their opinion by phone, mail or email.
