Tashkent Authorities Deny Reports of Sergeli Market Demolition
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The administration of Tashkent’s Sergeli district has denied reports circulating on social media claiming that the Sergeli car market is set to be demolished.
District officials said that construction, repair, and landscaping works are currently being carried out on the market territory. The works are aimed at improving convenience for sellers, buyers, and visitors.
According to the hokimiyat, the main purpose of the ongoing measures is to modernize infrastructure, create a safer and more modern trading environment, and improve service quality.
“The Sergeli car market continues to operate in its normal mode. Reports about its demolition do not correspond to reality,” the statement said.
As part of the renovation work, the entrance areas of the market’s administrative building are being reconstructed and granite paving stones are being laid. New asphalt has already been laid over an area of 26,500 square meters, with an additional 16,200 square meters planned.
Work is also underway to renovate the roofs of retail outlets specializing in auto parts. Randomly placed advertising structures are being dismantled, shop displays are being updated, and containers for used auto parts are being standardized.
To improve visitor convenience, an automated payment system without operators is being introduced at the market entrances.
The administration emphasized that all ongoing work is aimed solely at developing the area, improving conditions for entrepreneurs, and creating a more comfortable environment for residents, and is not related to the closure of the market.
