Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva conducted a working visit to the Khorezm region to review measures for reducing unemployment and poverty, developing family entrepreneurship, and improving social services, according to reports from the region.

The visit focused on distressed mahallas, specifically inspecting the "Govuk" mahalla in the Khiva district and the "Shikhmashkhad" mahalla in the Koshkupyr district. The assessment aimed to evaluate how effectively local initiatives create sustainable income sources to assist families in overcoming poverty independently.

In the "Govuk" mahalla, local efforts center on expanding handicraft production, including furniture, door, and window frame manufacturing. A concept was presented to establish a dedicated Crafts Center in the mahalla to organize individual artisans into a cluster model, facilitating shared infrastructure, cooperation, and expanded market access.

In the "Shikhmashkhad" mahalla, more than 100 families engage in traditional wood carving and handicrafts, supplying products to local markets and the Republic of Karakalpakstan. During the visit, officials reviewed projects supported by preferential loans, including a local catering initiative opened by a former labor migrant using a 100 million soum loan.

Meeting with residents and community leaders, Narbayeva emphasized the need to combine economic support with accessible social, medical, and educational services. Responsible authorities were tasked with ensuring that target mahallas eliminate poverty and unemployment by the end of the year, alongside strengthening public and parliamentary oversight over the execution of planned measures.
