Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan Prepare Land Exchange Operations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have begun practical preparations for a border land exchange following the establishment of a joint working group in the Kadamjay district of the Batken region, UzDaily.uz reported, citing AKIpress and the Ministry of Labor of Kyrgyzstan.
During a meeting of the joint commission on organizational and technical matters, representatives from both nations discussed the implementation of previously reached border demarcation agreements. The discussions addressed the legal status of residents in transferred territories, potential relocation procedures, property rights registration, and land use protocols.
The joint working group comprises representatives from relevant ministries, departments, and local authorities of both countries. It is tasked with determining the citizenship of affected residents, organizing any necessary resettlement, managing the transfer of state property, handling property rights documentation, and overseeing land use and social protection measures. Additionally, measures have been established to ensure uninterrupted education for affected students.
The working group has commenced operations and will conduct field visits directly to the exchange territories to evaluate local conditions and regularly report findings to commission co-chairs. First Deputy Minister Kamchybek Dosmatov leads the Kyrgyz delegation, while First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Botir Kudratkhodjaev heads the Uzbek delegation.
In Chon-Gara village, which came under Kyrgyz jurisdiction as part of the bilateral territorial exchange, authorities have already launched a citizenship registration campaign for local residents.
