Khorezm introduces new deputy oversight system for poverty reduction
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A new model of parliamentary and public oversight aimed at poverty reduction and employment generation is being introduced in the Khorezm region, following a working visit by a parliamentary delegation led by Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva.
During a meeting in Urgench with deputies, chairpersons, and secretariat heads of local Kengashes of People's Deputies, officials outlined the operational framework for the mechanism. The initiative brings together representatives from the Mahalla Association of Uzbekistan, the Nuroniy Foundation, the Committee for Family and Women, the Youth Affairs Agency, the Inson Social Services Center, and trade union organizations to coordinate support at the local level.
The system is designed to support regional goals set following the President's visit to Khorezm, which target lifting 81,000 people out of poverty and providing employment for 39,000 unemployed individuals. Under the new mechanism, 348 local deputies across 509 districts in the region will be assigned specific areas of responsibility in collaboration with local "mahalla seven" teams and community organizations.
Deputies will oversee localized action plans covering unemployment reduction, social service provision, investment projects, infrastructure development, and target assistance for families listed on the social register. Implementation will prioritize distressed mahallas as pilot locations.
To ensure continuous oversight, permanent commissions of local Kengashes will review progress on a weekly basis, with monthly evaluations conducted during Kengash sessions to assess administrative performance based on long-term household financial stability and employment outcomes.
