Russia to Restrict Imports From Five Uzbek Exporters

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) will impose restrictions from 23 July 2026 on imports of regulated plant products from five Uzbek exporters that, according to the Russian authority, recorded the highest number of phytosanitary violations.

According to Rosselkhoznadzor, the restrictions apply to suppliers that mainly export white cabbage, cauliflower, onions, dill, parsley, grapes, beetroot, tomatoes and other plant products.

The agency said the decision was taken in response to an increasing number of detections of quarantine pests and diseases in products imported from Uzbekistan. It said the measures are intended to ensure Russia's food security, maintain the country's phytosanitary status and prevent the introduction and spread of quarantine organisms.

Rosselkhoznadzor said that since the beginning of 2026 it had recorded 132 cases involving quarantine organisms in shipments from Uzbekistan. The agency identified the Tomato brown rugose fruit virus, South American tomato pinworm (Tuta absoluta), western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis) and Beet necrotic yellow vein benyvirus among the detected organisms.

The Russian authority said the repeated detection of such violations indicates, in its assessment, that Uzbekistan's current phytosanitary control system is not sufficiently effective in ensuring the safety of products exported to the Russian market.
