Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The level of geological exploration coverage in Uzbekistan increased from 20% to 45% in 2016–2025, while the area studied grew from 89,000 to 200,000 square kilometres. During the period, 185 prospective areas and more than 50 mineral deposits were identified.

In 2025, geological exploration was carried out under 289 projects. As a result, 33 new deposits were identified and their reserves confirmed. Exploration work is continuing under 275 projects in 2026.

Under the Uzbekistan-2030 Strategy, the country has set a target to conduct geological exploration across an area of 60,000 square kilometres. At the same time, gold production is to increase 1.5 times, silver production threefold and copper production 3.5 times.

Particular attention is being paid to the digitalization of the geological sector. Some 36,000 geological reports from the State Geological Fund have been digitized. Digital geological and hydrogeological maps of Uzbekistan at a scale of 1:200,000 have also been created, while seven public services in the subsoil use sector have been transferred to digital format.

The use of artificial intelligence, modern geophysical and aerogeophysical technologies, as well as 3D modelling, is planned to be expanded in geological exploration.

Foreign investment worth US$7.8 billion was attracted to projects for the exploration and development of mineral deposits in 2017–2025. A total of 60 projects are currently being implemented in the sector.

In addition, 120 projects in the critical minerals sector with a total value of US$4.2 billion are planned for 2026–2030.

The data were presented at a press conference at the Content Preparation Centre for Mass Media, attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology.

The event also covered ongoing reforms, the results of geological exploration, efforts to expand the mineral resource base and new investment projects.
