Ramadan month to kick off on 20 July

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution on adequate organization of Ramadan month on 17 July 2012.

According to the resolution, the first day of Ramadan month falls to 20 July.

Uzbek head ordered local administration in cooperation with Nuroniy Foundation, Makhalla Foundation and other public organizations to hold Ramadan month in spirit of national traditions and values.

The document said the organizations should pay special attention to propaganda of humanism, spirituality, study of heritage of ancestors, accomplishment of holy places, etc.

Ramadan is a month of fasting. Muslims should not eat or drink from sunrise to sunset. The month ends with Id ul Fitr holiday.
