Assembly and sales of Chevrolet cars and SamAuto buses start in Azerbaijan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 17 September 2021, A grand opening of the production line of UzAuto Motors JSC and SamAvto JV LLC took place in the city of Hajigabul (Azerbaijan). In addition, within the framework of an alliance with General Motors, UzAuto Motors announced the start of sales of Chevrolet cars in Azerbaijan.
The Azermash SR plant, which is part of the Hajigabul industrial quarter, located near the city of Baku, was the production partner from Azerbaijan. The implementation of the project became possible thanks to the agreements between the parties from 21 July 2021. In April this year, at the opening ceremony of the Hajigabul industrial quarter, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev pressed the symbolic button to start the project. In his welcoming speech, the President of Azerbaijan noted the importance of economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, the common cultural and linguistic characteristics of the two peoples. A new level of relations between fraternal states was proclaimed in October 2019, during the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Baku to formalize the full entry of our country into the Turkic Council.
At the ceremonial launch of production at the plant of the joint venture "Azermash SR", Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan for financial and economic issues Jamshid Kuchkarov delivered a parting word and a solemn speech online. From the side of Azerbaijan, the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mikail Jabbarov took part in the event.
At the first stage of cooperation, it is planned to produce and sell Chevrolet Nexia, Chevrolet Cobalt cars at the production facilities of Azermash SR, and at the second stage Chevrolet Damas and Chevrolet Labo in total up to 5,000 units. As well as SamAvto buses up to 1000 units per year.
According to the official distributor of UzAuto Motors in Azerbaijan, Azermash SR, a distinctive competitive advantage of these models will be a favorable and balanced ratio of price, functionality and quality.
From the side of Shavkat Umurzakov it was noted: “In order to count on success in Azerbaijan, we have many reasons. Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are linked by centuries-old bonds of friendship and good neighborliness, our fraternal peoples speak kindred languages and have common traditions, history, culture and mentality. We have no doubt that the products of the new car plant will gain popularity among the residents of Azerbaijan, that they will like the updated Nexia, Cobalt, Damas and Labo, as well as SamAuto buses. The creation of a joint venture between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan will allow, along with the Azerbaijani market, to enter such export markets as Georgia, Turkey and African countries. "
In addition, Bo Inge Andersson, General Director of UzAuto Motors JSC, emphasized: “We are currently studying the possibility of adding several more cars to the model range. As such, we expect the initial range to expand significantly in the near future to include a wide range of attractive vehicles, from small and compact passenger cars to full-size SUVs.”
“Equipping buses with Japanese ISUZU engines and using new generation equipment demonstrate excellent competitive advantages. In the future, the parties are discussing the issue of expanding the production line of commercial equipment,” comments the General Director of JV SamAvto LLC Ulmas Yuldashev.
In March 2020, the production of Chevrolet cars was launched in Kazakhstan. The production of buses "SamAvto" in Kazakhstan was established in May this year.
