Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Construction has begun on the Yangi Uzbekistan-Nukus City district in the Ashshikol area of Nukus, designed to accommodate 50,000 residents, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at a meeting on the socio-economic development of Karakalpakstan in Nukus.
Mirziyoyev said high-rise buildings, business, shopping and service centers, as well as green areas, would be built across 270 hectares using modern architectural solutions and energy-efficient technologies. Foreign investors will be attracted to implement investment projects in the new district, he said.
The president also said Mustaqillik Street in Nukus had become a round-the-clock operating zone. After 28 entrepreneurs began operating there and another 50 entrepreneurs expanded their activities, the street's trade turnover doubled within a week.
Mirziyoyev instructed officials to improve the Nur and Elabad mahallas based on the example of the Kichkirik mahalla in Almazar district and create a modern public space in the local park ahead of Navruz.
He said work had begun in Kegeyli to cover a 3.5-kilometer irrigation ditch and build 100 service-sector facilities, creating 320 jobs.
According to Mirziyoyev, heads of other regions have been instructed to implement similar projects involving one mahalla and one central street in the districts assigned to them by Navruz.
The president proposed that residents themselves evaluate the renovated streets and mahallas and that, if approved by residents, the streets be named after the regions responsible for their improvement.
