More Than 670 Uzbek Drivers Face Licence Suspension
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A total of 671 drivers in Uzbekistan have accumulated more than 12 penalty points for traffic violations, making them subject to suspension of their driving licences for at least six months under the law, the Road Safety Service said.
According to the agency, 399,269 administrative warnings were issued during the reporting period, which was not specified. The most common violations involved driving without a seat belt, using a mobile phone while driving, watching videos behind the wheel, speeding, violating stopping and parking rules, failing to comply with traffic regulations, and crossing roads outside designated pedestrian crossings.
Zoyir Yuldoshev, spokesperson for the Road Safety Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Public Security Department, said an administrative warning may be issued to the same individual only once within a year.
"As of today, 671 people have accumulated more than 12 penalty points. Under the current rules, drivers who exceed 12 points lose the right to drive for a period of at least six months," he said.
The penalty point system has been in force since 1 June. It was introduced under a law signed by the President of Uzbekistan in February 2025. Each traffic violation carries between 0.5 and 2 points, which remain on a driver's record for one year from the date the violation is recorded. Drivers who accumulate more than 12 points are subject to licence suspension.
Since 1 April, penalty points have also been assigned for violations detected by automated photo and video enforcement systems. Previously, points were recorded only for violations documented by Road Safety Service officers.
According to the agency, during the first three months of the system's operation, 63,900 drivers received between 0.5 and 1 penalty point, 4,976 accumulated up to two points, 189 reached up to three points, 14 received four points, and four drivers accumulated five points.
The Road Safety Service also said that since the introduction of the new system, the number of recorded traffic violations has fallen by 1.7 times compared with the same period last year. In addition, the number of serious road accidents caused by drivers during the summer has declined by about one-third.
