Kyrgyzstan Eases Stay Rules for Uzbek Citizens to 15 Days

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Citizens of Uzbekistan will be allowed to stay in Kyrgyzstan without mandatory registration for up to 15 days instead of the current five. A corresponding protocol was signed on 30 July 2026 following talks between President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov.

The document provides for amendments to the Agreement between the Governments of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan on Mutual Travel of Citizens dated 3 October 2006. The exchange of signed documents took place in the presence of the two heads of state.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the protocol aims to further liberalize the mutual travel regime by simplifying stay rules in the host country.

Under the document, citizens of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are exempt from the obligation to register permanently or temporarily with competent authorities of the receiving country within 15 days of crossing the state border.

Currently, Kyrgyz legislation requires Uzbek citizens to register with internal affairs bodies within five days of entry. After the protocol enters into force, this period will be extended to 15 days.

The changes are expected to promote the development of tourism, trade, cross-border cooperation, and strengthen humanitarian and business ties between the two countries.
