Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A court in Kokand has sentenced a commercial bank employee to 18 years in prison for killing a client who came to arrange a car loan and stealing US$5,700 from him, Ruxsor News reported.
According to the case materials, the crime occurred on 30 March 2026. A 28-year-old resident of Uzbekistan District came to a commercial bank in Kokand to arrange an auto loan. He had US$5,700 with him as a down payment for a car.
The client was served by a fellow resident of the district, a 25-year-old bank employee. By lunchtime, the documents required for the loan had been prepared. According to the court, the bank employee learned that the client was carrying the money and invited him to have lunch together.
The men left in a Tracker driven by the bank employee. A conflict occurred in the area of the Tarakkiyot mahalla in Uzbekistan District. The bank employee then drove the vehicle along an unpopulated dirt road toward a car market in the Muqimiy mahalla of Kokand.
At the location, he asked the client to get out of the vehicle. According to the case materials, after the client refused, the bank employee took out a kitchen knife he was carrying and stabbed the victim several times in different parts of his body. The man died at the scene from his injuries.
After the killing, the defendant took the US$5,700 the victim was carrying and attempted to conceal the traces of the crime. He placed the body in the vehicle and returned to work, where he continued working until evening.
After dark, the man drove to the Big Ferghana Canal, which runs through the area of the Farovon Kelajak mahalla in Uzbekistan District, and threw the body into the water.
The victim’s body was discovered six days later.
During the trial, statements from witnesses and attesting witnesses were heard, and the evidence collected in the case was given a legal assessment. The court concluded that the defendant’s guilt was supported by the evidence.
Judge Davlatjon Asadullaev found the man guilty under paragraphs “j” and “i” of Part 2 of Article 97 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan and sentenced him to 18 years in prison, to be served in a general-regime penal colony.
The sentence takes effect from 31 March 2026. The previously imposed measure of pre-trial detention was left unchanged until the verdict enters into legal force.
The court also ordered the defendant to compensate the victim’s legal representative for material damage amounting to US$5,700, assessed at 67 million 61 thousand 697 soums.
