Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Karakalpakstan plans to provide 6,000 young people with high-paying jobs in information technology and logistics over the next three years, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at a meeting on the socio-economic development of the region in Nukus.
Karakalpakstan is home to 1.1 million young people, including 505,000 aged between 14 and 30, the president said.
Mirziyoyev described this as a major strength and stressed the importance of properly directing the potential of young people. He set a target of providing 1,000 young people with high-paying jobs in IT and logistics within a year and another 5,000 over the following two years.
The president said the region has 98,000 young people with foreign-language certificates, 127,000 with information technology certificates and 5,500 with certificates in exact sciences. Another 10,000 people have advanced skills in both foreign languages and information technology, he said.
Mirziyoyev supported an initiative by a compatriot from Korea to train young people from remote areas in information technology. He instructed officials to attract at least 10 specialists from the diaspora to Karakalpakstan by the end of the year.
The president also stressed the need to expand the experience of Vocational School No. 1 in Nukus, where the international Pearson BTEC educational programme has been introduced, with certificates recognized in 70 countries.
He said entrepreneur Salavutdin Ilyosov had established production of 37 types of small-scale equipment at the institution while also training young people to manufacture the equipment. As a result, 4,000 unemployed people have started earning income, according to the president.
From next year, similar experience will be introduced at four more vocational schools in the region. From 1 October, the size of loans for purchasing equipment will be increased from 20 million to 50 million soums, Mirziyoyev said.
