Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Akiko Fujii, UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan, met with Zhusipbek Kazbekov, Deputy Chairman of the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change, to discuss cooperation on environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and climate action.

The sides reaffirmed their intention to continue working together in these areas.

One of the main topics was the further development of joint initiatives to conserve biodiversity and restore ecosystems following the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) in Armenia.

The discussions covered the Aral Sea Region Wetlands and ECOLAND initiatives, as well as cooperation in implementing Uzbekistan’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.

Particular attention was given to the Aral Sea region, where protecting vulnerable wetlands, restoring degraded ecosystems and sustainably managing land and water resources are important for biodiversity conservation and strengthening the resilience of local communities.

The participants also discussed preparations for the COP31 climate conference, which will be held in Türkiye, and opportunities to strengthen joint climate action initiatives.

Both sides expressed their readiness to continue working together to achieve long-term results in nature conservation and improve people’s well-being.
