Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Bangladesh have discussed the possibility of concluding a free trade agreement that could help increase bilateral trade and investment.

The talks between Bahromjon Aloev, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan, and Humayun Kabir, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, took place on 18 October in Baghdad on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the press service of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The sides reviewed prospects for expanding trade and economic ties, investment partnerships and contacts between the business communities of the two countries.

Particular attention was paid to opportunities to boost trade and attract investment by strengthening direct engagement between entrepreneurs.

A potential free trade agreement (FTA) was among the topics discussed. The sides noted that progress in this area could broaden market access and strengthen commercial relations between Uzbekistan and Bangladesh.

The meeting also covered cooperation in air connectivity and tourism, as well as the development of direct business contacts between companies.

Both sides emphasised the importance of direct engagement between entrepreneurs in identifying new opportunities in trade and investment.

They also exchanged views on current international issues.

In particular, the sides discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation within the United Nations, the OIC and other international organisations, as well as collaboration on multilateral platforms and mutual support on matters of common interest.
