Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Karakalpakstan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have discussed infrastructure projects underway in the republic and prospects for further cooperation, including road reconstruction, drinking water supply and regional socioeconomic development.
The talks took place on 14 October between Amanbay Orynbaev, Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, and ADB representatives as part of the media mission “ADB Days in the Republic of Karakalpakstan”, held from 14 to 16 October with the participation of the bank's representative office in Uzbekistan. The press service of Karakalpakstan's Jokargy Kenes reported the meeting.
The participants reviewed the results of projects implemented with ADB involvement. These included the reconstruction of 240 kilometres of the A-380 international highway, which connects Uzbekistan with Europe. This section has already been commissioned.
Work is also continuing to install a cement-concrete pavement on a 25-kilometre section of the road. Similar work is planned for a further 92 kilometres.
The sides also discussed projects to improve drinking water supplies in Amudarya and Nukus districts. According to the Jokargy Kenes, the initiatives are intended to improve living conditions for local residents.
The meeting highlighted the importance of reforms and practical measures being implemented in Karakalpakstan, as well as ADB-supported projects, in promoting the region's socioeconomic development.
The participants also focused on strengthening their partnership.
Under measures outlined in a separate presidential decree concerning Karakalpakstan, the republic is also tasked with developing a socioeconomic development strategy jointly with the ADB based on the “Economic Corridor” approach.
