Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Law enforcement officers in Tashkent’s Yashnabad district found cocaine in the apartment of a previously convicted man whom Uzbekistan’s Interior Ministry describes as a former member of an organized crime group.
The operation was carried out by officers of the Department of Operational Search of the Interior Ministry of Uzbekistan, its regional divisions and the Tashkent Prosecutor’s Office.
During a search of the apartment, several paper packages wrapped in adhesive tape were found in the living room. An expert examination determined that they contained a powdery narcotic substance — cocaine.
The substance was seized and documented as material evidence.
According to law enforcement authorities, the man is from the Ferghana region. He had previously been convicted under several criminal charges and was a member of criminal groups.
The Interior Ministry also said he was an accomplice of a person known in criminal circles by the nickname “Zhora Tashkentsky.”
A criminal case has been opened against the suspect on charges of illegal drug trafficking.
