Japan Deports Uzbek Citizen for Illegal Stay

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Japan’s Immigration Services Agency has deported an Uzbek citizen who was illegally staying in the country to Uzbekistan, the Embassy of Japan in Uzbekistan said.

According to the diplomatic mission, the deported citizen entered Japan on a short-term visa, remained in the country after it expired and was subsequently detained by the authorities.

The embassy reminded citizens that a student visa is intended for education and cannot be used as a means of earning income. If illegal residence or unauthorized employment is identified, violators face strict measures, including detention and arrest by police, placement in an immigration detention center and deportation.

The Japanese government provides information about violators to the Uzbek government, after which appropriate measures may be taken against those who return home. The diplomatic mission urged citizens to exercise extreme caution and not to trust offers such as “you can work in Japan.”

The embassy also drew attention to a widespread misconception that applying for refugee status in Japan allows applicants to “stay in the country for a long time” or “work.” Submitting such an application for these purposes is not permitted. If an application for refugee status is rejected, the applicant may be placed in an immigration detention center or deported.

Providing false information or using fraudulent methods when applying for refugee status may result in serious legal measures.
