Islam Karimov congratulates new Pakistani President

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov has sent a greeting note to Mamnoon Hussain congratulating him on his election as President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said.

Ruling party, PML-N, candidate Mamnoon Hussain was elected as the 12th President of Pakistan on Tuesday, 30 July 2013.

Election Commission of Pakistan said that Hussain received a total of 432 votes from the two houses of Parliament and the four provincial assemblies.

The Pakistani president is elected by votes cast in the national assembly and provincial assemblies. The Pakistani presidency is largely a symbolic post and prime minister holds the most powers.
